USA Made drone company breaking barriers with NUAIR at Griffiss International Airport.
[ROME, NY, June 30, 2020] — This past month, SICDRONE, a Massachusetts based high performance manufacturer of small unmanned aerial systems (drone/sUAS), in their quest to reach speeds over 100mph, made significant progress toward that goal during a day of flight demonstrations for the United States Air Force.
The SICDRONE team traveled from their headquarters in Peabody, MA to the NUAIR Hangar Bay at Griffiss International Airport in Rome, NY to perform a flight demonstration in front of multiple Air Force representatives. After a day of flight testing and data collection on Monday, June 29, their drones took flight on Tuesday, June 30. Racing to speeds over 75 mph, the SICDRONE team pushed their aircraft to the pinnacle of speed performance for Group 2 multicopter sUAS.
Using SICDRONE’s unique thrust vectoring capability, the sUAS demonstrated multiple tiltrotor flight missions. This successful flight demonstration was made possible after 4 years of determined aerospace engineering efforts. SICDRONE is taking on big design challenges and creating world-class American made technology in the sUAS market,” said Dan Bosch, SICDRONE CEO, “Working alongside the Air Force, first as a member of the Air Force Techstars Program and then the AFWERX SBIR program, has been crucial to our success.”
SICDRONE has a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research Grant (SBIR) with the Air Force, sponsored by AFWERX. Where the company is conducting rapid prototyping alongside Air Force end users, on its military grade drone platforms to reach advanced speed, wind, and payload conditions. SICDRONE’s sUAS succeeded in surpassing industry leading speeds and precision maneuverability during their testing at Griffiss International Airport. SICDRONE is continuously improving their product’s performance, safety, and security through advancements in machine learning and artificial intelligence, along with the latest in additive manufacturing equipment and materials. The company addresses US military and commercial market demand for US-Made high-performing sUAS platforms. The FY20 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) barred the US military from purchasing Chinese-made drones and pending legislation will expand the ban to other federal agencies and commercial market sectors.
SICDRONE is a veteran-owned, US-based small business manufacturer of high performance drone systems founded by aerospace engineers, Dan Bosch (CEO) and Tom Brigham (CTO). Combined, Bosch and Brigham have 40 years of experience in the US Navy, Boeing and GE Aviation. SICDRONE, an Air Force Accelerator/ Techstars company, has seed investment from Jaguar/Land Rover Techstars and MassVentures. They were recently selected by MassVentures to accelerate and assist with the commercialization of their US made sUAS innovations developed prior to their Phase II SBIR award with the DoD. SICDRONE has built out its new facility, located in Peabody, MA, where they design, manufacture, and test their drone systems.
